SCHUYLER, Neb. (Mar. 2026)— Iron Lung is a sci-fi horror film directed by content creator, Mark Edward Fischbach, who is known on Youtube as Markiplier. The movie is based on the indie horror video game of the same name which was created by David Szymanski. The film’s main character, Simon, played by Markiplier, is a convicted prisoner forced to complete a dangerous mission.
Ava, played by Caroline Kaplan, serves as the main point of contact for Simon, directing him via radio to pilot a submarine known as the Iron Lung through an ocean of blood on a desolate moon.
The story takes place in a future where an event called “the Quiet Rapture” caused all the stars and habitable planets to disappear. Humanity is left struggling surviving in small space stations scattered across the vast and mostly barren galaxy. Simon must explore, take photographs and collect data in exchange for freedom. However, the submarine is small, old and poorly maintained.
As he descends deeper into the blood ocean, Simon begins to experience fear and strange occurrences that suggest he might not be alone in the ocean.
Markiplier’s performance, as the prisoner, is strong and believable. He shows fear, panic and desperation. The visuals and sound design are effective in building suspense. The dark lighting, cramped space and sound effects create constant suspense for the audience. These elements all work to make the audience nervous about what might happen next.
Overall, It has creative storytelling and suspenseful, strong performances from the actors including Troy Baker, Elsie Lovelock, Elle LaMont and Sean William McLoughlin, also known as Youtube’s Jacksepticeye.
